Goal Setting - Writing a Personal Action Plan
Sunday, 16 August 2009 15:45

I thought i'd share with you this tried and tested approach to long and short term goal setting.

I have personally used this my self on many occasions and have also used it with many clients to great effect.

                                             Give it a go....

Firstly start by listing the things you want to achieve in 5 years; these must include things in your wildest fantasy

Secondly start to work these back by 2.5 years then 1 year, then 6 months.

The next stage of the plan is to think about the steps you need to take in the next 30 days if you are to achieve your 6 month goals.

It helps to split these into the following categories

· Business

· Health/ body

· Finances

· Children

· Relationships

For every 90 day goal you need a reason why you must achieve and a worst case scenario if you don’t achieve.

Each 90 day goal must now be broken down to where you need to be in 30 days and then where you need to be next week to make this a possibility.

The final step is to come up with 2 actions you need to do immediately if this is to take place. (For example- you said ‘’I need to lose weight’’ so you picked up my leaflet and called me, you are now filling in a food diary, these are 2)

The more descriptive you make your goals the better, it will give you the security you need and knowing that what you are doing now will enable you to achieve your goals set in the future. This will maintain your motivation!

Good luck!
