Why did you choose a Health Coach over a Personal Trainer?I used to play competitive sport (rugby) to a high professional standard but through various injuries I have had to stop. I wanted a coach who was used to supporting athletes who have sustained physical damage and injuries, helping them to achieve their sporting goals, not merely “lift more weights”. The “total package” that I get and the rehab programmes that Matt has put me through have meant that I can still compete competitively, albeit in different sports.
What were your expectations or goals? When I first started with Matt it was following a number of years of overindulgence and very poor quality training. Initially I wanted someone to help “fix” what my body had become, as I got more into it, my goals have become more specific and targeted. What have you achieved?More than I initially had thought possible.I came 8th in my year Group in the Sydney Triathlon, and have an event calendar filled with similar such events. My body is far from what it was when I was 18, but I have a stronger core, stronger motivation and a much better appreciation of what my body is telling me and the fuel it needs to perform. So, what are your future goals?Future goals are to get more efficient at Olympic distance triathlons and possible an ironman. What keeps you motivated?Matt! What is/was the hardest part of the journey?Being patient enough to work through rehab exercises and core work. Basically learning to walk before I run. If you could give one piece of advice, what would it be?Be clear and honest in your goals and aspirations, and be honest with yourself about the level of commitment that you are prepared to give. If you want to do it enough, Matt will get you there! What would you say to those thinking about calling? If you just want a “gym bunny” to watch you lift weights and smile at you then don’t bother Matt. If you want to change your lifestyle, have a particular goal in mind or need a holistic approach to your health and fitness, then there is no-one better in Leeds. |
